Welcome back to Answerland, the Chubstr reader Q+A series. You ask us questions and we get you answers! This week, it’s another grab bag. We answer a number of questions you’ve sent in. Let’s kick things off with a question from Chris:
How do you know if a vest fits you well? Should it be tight or slightly loose?
Like most items of clothing, you’re looking for a happy medium when it comes to your vest. You don’t want it to be too tight, or too loose. It’s also important to ensure that the shirt you’re wearing under the vest fits you well. If your shirt is too baggy, it can bunch up underneath the vest, which won’t look good. Get a great fitting shirt and you’ll be halfway there. As far as the vest goes, here are a few more tips to keep in mind:
Your vest should reach down to your waist, covering your dress shirt.
The vest should lie flat on you – no wrinkles or bunching.
Make sure the holes are big enough for your arms, and that you have the full range of movement.
ALSO: Keep the bottom button of your vest unbuttoned. It’s a style thing AND can be good for big guys who maybe need more room.
There are two companies making beds specifically for bigger people, Big Fig and Helix. Big Fig is exclusively dedicated to mattresses for plus size people. The mattress offers a medium firmness, made with high density foam, an innerspring system boasting 1600 springs, and cooling technology. The Big Fig mattress is made to support up to 1000 lbs of weight of two sleepers on the king or queen size mattresses.
The Big Fig offers a medium firm feel. I sleep on this bed and find it to be very comfortable while still feeling like it will hold up against wear and tear long term. As you can see in the photo above, this bed is strong enough to handle me jumping on it.
Both companies offer multiple-month sleep trials with their mattresses. Choose the one that best fits your needs and give it a try.
My Wife and I are expecting our first child and I need a baby carrier that fits. Have you come across anything?
Congrats on the upcoming arrival! A baby carrier can be a lifesaver when it comes to extra mobility and ease of use. The problem is, not a lot of companies make baby carriers for plus size people. Enter Kinderpack, who realizes that parents come in all shapes and sizes. Their carriers offer plus size straps, which you can specify when you purchase a carrier through their website.
