Sized Up is our weekly feature that’ll help you find clothing in your size in cities around the world. You won’t see the same old mall stores here – we focus on smaller, custom shops and boutiques that are off the beaten path. This week we scour Dallas, Texas for stores that offer extended sizes in clothes you’ll like. If you’re not familiar with Dallas, you might think of it as a city full of cowboys and cattle, and while you’d be right to an extent, there’s a lot more going on than just the rodeo. Dallas is a diverse city comprised of interesting neighborhoods and unique people. While it can be difficult to find clothing in your size if you’re a bigger guy, we came across these places to visit when you’re out shopping.
Hollywood 5 & DimeSpecializes in rockabilly, hot rod, british bike, and americana style clothing, and sounds like my dream store. A quick look at their site will give you a general idea of what’s available, but hitting the store is the way to go. You’ll find apparel, accessories, and footwear readily available in sizes up to 2XL, but they will special order larger sizes in select items when possible. Be sure to take a look at the belt buckles and work shirts – if you’re into the rockabilly look, you’ll probably find a few things you like.
You can follow Hollywood 5 & Dime on Facebookif you’re so inclined. They post regular updates on things that are happening in the store, as well as in the neighborhood, like concerts and events.
If you’re looking for something a little more dressed up, Pockets Menswearmight be the place for you. In business for more than 30 years, Pockets has made it their mission to dress men “better than necessary.” You’ll find clothing from companies like Hamilton and Canali – this is the place to shop if you need something a bit more classy. Sizes regularly available run to 2XL and 44 in waist, but if you need something with a bit more room, you can talk to them about custom made clothing.
We’ve talked about The Foundry on this site in the past, and it’s still a place to check out. It’s owned by J.C. Penney, so you can expect clothing similar to what they offer (Nautica, Perry Ellis, Tommy Hilfiger). They offer sizes to 6XL and 5XLT, suits to 54L and shoes from 10 regular to 16 wide. You’ll find sizes to 10XL on their website. Find the store nearest you here, and check them out on Facebook here.
There are certainly more places to shop in Dallas, but these three are a pretty sure bet. What did we miss? Let us know in the comments what you think should be on the list. Rest assured that we’ll be revisiting Dallas and many of the other cities we’ve covered so far in Sized Up.
