Wolverine just introduced a great looking new shoe, called the 1000 Mile Sneaker, combining the classic look of their original boot with the pliability and comfort of your typical sneaker.
The style is a cross between a desert boot and an old school shoe like Vans makes, both of which are trending this season. Wolverine makes each pair of sneakers in the USA (with globally sourced materials) and like their boots, the sneakers are made with Horween leather. In this case, the company uses their Essex leather to ensure a lighter weight that is not generally found in a boot.
In the spirit of keeping the sneakers light, the 1000 Mile Sneaker is unlined. This means more room for a bigger and wider foot. Did they sacrifice comfort for roominess? Not so, according to the Wolverine representative we talked to. The PU (polyurethane) sock insert built into the shoe actually functions similar to a sock, helping to increase comfort without losing roominess.
It wouldn’t be incorrect to say that it seems like Wolverine has been upping their heritage/1000 Mile footwear output with releases like March’s 1940 boot and this new sneaker. This shoe brings a more modern streetwear option to the company’s largely traditional, dressed up footwear selection. Could this be a sign of more interesting things to come? Only time will tell.
