As Christmas quickly approaches, it’s time to start thinking about the important things: family, gifts, and libations! Anyone can grab a bottle of beer or add a bit of vodka to their drink, but a well-rounded gent is always ready to impress with a few creative holiday cocktails.
Here are a few of my favorite holiday drinks grouped into three categories (because I really like categorizing things):
The Classics
No Christmas party is complete without the confusingly satisfying concoction known as Eggnog. It took me years to develop a taste for it, but now I crave it as soon as the Christmas tree goes up. To make one, blend 1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream, 1/4 oz Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey and 1 egg until smooth and pour into a mug. Add boiling milk, sprinkle with nutmeg, and enjoy!
When I think about a White Russian two things come to mind: the holidays and of course, The Big Lebowski. This drink is simple, classic, and if The Dude can handle it, so can you. Simply mix 1 1/2 oz of Vodka (I prefer Ketel One or Shpilka), 3/4 oz Kahlua, and 3/4 oz heavy cream. Shake well with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass.
The Unique

The Holiday Hopper is a tasty flavored martini comprised of ingredients that aren’t usually paired with each other. Pour 1 ounce Midori melon liquer, 1/2 ounce green creme de menthe, 1/2 oz white creme de cacao and 2 oz half and half into a shaker filled with ice, shake well, and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with mint leaves and a raspberry.
The Make You Forget About the Holidays
Our final recipe comes from Mac, Chubstr’s I.T. Director, who says this special concoction has already been the catalyst for a few interesting stories this holiday season. Mac suggests that if you’re trying to get through a holiday gathering quickly, a Gargoyle or two may help speed things along. Note that this recipe involves open flame, so if you choose to create it, PROCEED WITH CAUTION. 1 bottle of honey brown beer, 1 bottle of apple cider, 1 oz of hot damn schnapps (100 proof). Pour cider into a beer mug, and slowly pour in beer. Add hot damn to a shot glass and light it on fire. Drop the shot glass into the mug and drink quickly.
There are a few drinks to get you through the holiday season. Do you have a go-to Christmas cocktail? Tell us about it in the comments!
