Gap is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the Denim Through the Decades collection, which takes inspiration from vintage pieces in the brand’s archive. Even better, many of the men’s pieces are available with sizes to XXXL. Here are our favorites from each era represented in the collection.
Nothing says the 70’s like a good denim jacket, right? The 70’s Pioneer Denim Jacket ($98) in raw indigo is a classic. The full plaid flannel inner lining will keep you warm through the cooler months. Though there’s no stretch in this denim, the jacket offers a straight, relaxed fit and sizes up to XXXL.
Pair the jacket above with the 70’s Pioneer Denim Shirt ($79.95) and you’ll look like you stepped out of another time. Well, almost. This relaxed fit shirt is more roomy in the shoulders and is available in a light denim wash. Pick it up with sizes to XXXL, add some jeans, and you’ll be a big & tall denim dream.
The Denim Through the Decades collection does a great job of taking looks from specific eras and giving them a modern twist. The 80’s Worker Shirt Jacket ($79) is exactly this, taking inspiration from that decade’s worker denim styles and tweaking the fit. Unlike the jacket mentioned above, this one is made with stretch fabric, which means a little more in the areas you need it. Sizes to 3X.
The 90’s Oversized Icon Denim Jacket ($98) takes me back to my teens, when clothes were bigger and more boxy. Though the jacket is constructed with non-stretch denim, it offers a straight, oversized fit, and might work for those of us who need more room up top.
