IZOD: A Modern Take on a Classic

IZOD logo

IZOD gives us what every guy wants; an American brand with staying power that designs on-trend clothing with classic touches. Add in sizes available to 6X in tops and 56 waist and it’s a home run. Izod is steeped in history. Once part of Lacoste (you know, the Alligator guys), they were purchased by PVH in 1995 and entered the world of moderately priced menswear and accessories.

The cornerstone of IZOD, and what made them famous, are their pique polo shirts. Pique refers to the way the cotton is woven. It creates a fine ribbed texture that most people associate with a polo shirt. In bigger sizes, pique is great. It’s a heavier weight and gives more shape and structure to the shirt, in turn making it look more fitted. IZOD make their signature polo shirts in sizes up to 6X and they’re available at large department stores like JCPenney, Macy’s, and Belk.

Within JCPenney stores, IZOD has set up specialty shops. With these shops comes an entire new brand image for IZOD. Now much younger and youthful focused; IZOD is a true ‘destination brand’ for stylish guys. You can flip through their Fall 2012 Look Book here to see just what we’re talking about. You’ll notice wardrobe classics like sweaters, sport shirts, and pull overs, done in a modern way with classic preppy IZOD tradition. Laid back, preppy, east coast style (popularized by JFK Jr. in the 1970’s) has made a nationwide come back in recent years. This is clearly reflected in IZOD’s most recent advertising campaigns.

Beyond polo shirts and sweaters, IZOD’s line includes pants and shorts up to size 56, watches, outerwear, and underwear. All of these can be found in sizes above 2X. The best part is IZOD products are fairly affordable and regularly available at a discount via store promotions. If you’re having trouble finding IZOD at stores in your local mall, it’s widely sold online and through outlet stores around the country.
