It’s been almost 100 years since Converse has modified its beloved Chuck Taylor sneaker. It’s hard to imagine such an iconic shoe getting a major overhaul, so it’s great to see that the Chuck Taylor All Star II, aka, the Chuck II, isn’t really all that different.

For the most part, it’s just more comfortable.

Yeah, you read that right. The shoe that has always looked so cool is now a lot easier on the foot. The original wasn’t made for things like walking long distances, jogging, or standing up for extended periods of time, so with the Chuck II, Converse thought about how people wear their shoes, and made one that’s functionally better.

Because of lunarlon technology from Nike (who owns Converse), you’ll find better foot cushioning, made to keep your feet comfortable after a long day of wear. They also added a thicker, non-slip tongue, and a microsuede liner that lets your dogs breathe, which definitely wasn’t the case in the original Chucks.

There are a few other changes that purists might not appreciate, like the fact that the eyelet and lace colors match the rest of the shoe, but other than that, they’re the Chuck Taylor sneakers you’ve always loved, just more comfortable.

No word on sizing or widths yet, but expect it to be similar to the original Chucks (read: no extended widths).

Get your own pair of Chuck II sneakers for $70 for the low top, or $75 for the hi-top when they’re released on July 28th.
