Today we’re starting a new weekly feature that will help you find clothing in your size in cities around the world. You won’t see the same old mall stores here – we focus on smaller, custom shops and boutiques that are off the beaten path. We’ll kick things off in the Pacific Northwest with Portland, Oregon.
When it comes to finding the resources to create your own style, few cities have more options than Portland, Oregon. With over 50 thrift and resale stores in the city, you’ll find quite a bit of vintage clothing. Portland is known for being fat-friendly, so that means you’ll have a much better chance of finding shops with clothing you love in sizes that actually fit you. We’ve scoured the city to bring you the best places to shop for men’s plus size clothing in Portland:
Who they are: Fat Fancy carries modern and vintage styles for plus size men and women. From the looks of their facebook page and the photos they’ve got there, they’re having a lot of fun doing what they do. Clothing goes quickly there, so make sure this is the first place you stop.
What they offer: If you’re looking for an alternative to the Abercrombies of the world, this is the place for you. You’ll find fashions from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s as well as a variety of western wear. Hats, pants, button down collared shirts – you name it and they’ve probably got it. If you like to get creative with your style be sure you take a look at Fat Fancy.
Who they are: More than 55 dealers selling all things vintage in this 13,000 square foot store. If you dig the vintage, this is the place for you.
What they offer: Vintage and more vintage. You’ll spend quite a bit of time picking through the things they have to offer, but it’ll be well worth it when you find new (to you) fashions. You might end up leaving with some other vintage gear as clothing is only a sliver of what House of Vintage has to offer.
Who they are: One of the oldest running thrift store chains in the United States.
What they offer: It depends. Inventory changes on a regular basis, but you can put together some interesting outfits based on the clothing you find here. The finds can be hit or miss, but if you dig deep enough you’re sure to go home with a few treasures.
Who they are: Size Queen Clothing’s Bertha Pearl designs plus size clothing that is both comfy and fabulous.
