After quite a bit of searching, I’m convinced that Miami simply doesn’t have as many shops selling clothing in extended sizes as other parts of the country. Most cities have a variety of interesting stores that carry clothing in extended sizes. Take Portland, for example. They have offer some great places to buy men’s clothing. So does Austin, Milwaukee, Dallas, Minneapolis, San Francisco. Is it the heat? My one trip to Miami happened to take place in mid-August, and the heat was oppressive. I digress. It seems that Miami hides its fat people stores well.
Here are two stores you should visit when you’re in the Miami area. There are tons of other boutiques and interesting places to visit, but most of them don’t offer the selection of extended sizes you might hope for. Do you know of a non-chain store that we missed? Let us know in the comments.
Miami Big And Tall may have a horrible website, but they’re serious about their men’s big and tall clothing selection and they offer just about anything you might be looking for. After being in business for 30 years, chances are that if they don’t have what you need, they know someone who does. You’ll find brands such as Levi’s, Greystone, Tommy Bahama, and Wrangler in sizes ranging from 2XL to 8XL in tops and to size 80 in waist. If you’re looking for high quality (and you’ve got the money to spend), a stop at designer Duncan Quinn’s Miami shop is in order. You’ll find ready to wear shirts to XXL, ties, scarves, helmets (yes, helmets) and more available for purchase, but if you’re really interested in kicking your look up a notch or two, order a bespoke suit. You’ll go through a consultation and then they’ll construct the perfect suit for you. Prices start at $4,000 and suits take 8 to 12 weeks to be completed, but you’ll have a suit that sticks with you for a while. If you don’t have the clams to put down on a suit, simply visiting the store itself is an experience.
