We were first introduced to Five Four Clothing by PLUS Model Magazine’s Executive Fashion Director (and recent Chubstr Crush) Reah Norman, when she submitted a photo of her man, Los Angeles Radio Personality Chuey Martinez. There aren’t a ton of options in L.A. for stylish clothing in extended sizes if you don’t want something tailor made, so we took a closer look at Five Four to see what they had to offer, and here’s what we found.

Who is Five Four Clothing?

Five Four began its life in 2002 as a business plan for USC students Andres Izquieta and Dee Murthy. Their goal? Create clothing with “a modern aesthetic, yet with a classic style that is timeless [but] forward. Their plan worked. By 2008, Five Four generated $8 million in net sales (and that was a down year for them). According to a WSJ interview with Izquieta, he said he wants to create “our generation’s next Polo.” A pretty lofty goal that they’re trying to deliver on today.

What Does Five Four Have to Offer Big Guys?

You’ll find jeans, tees, button downs, outerwear, accessories and more available at Five Four Clothing. If you’re the type of guy who wants to make one stop to buy a full look, this place is perfect for you. Unlike most shops offering ready to wear clothing in Los Angeles, Five Four offers clothing in extended sizes. You’ll find shirts to 3X, and select pairs of jeans in sizes to 44 (most of their jeans stop at 42). We’re partial to the Lincoln button down in khaki ($48, sizes to 3X), and the H Wayne raw denim jeans in black ($39.99, sizes to 44). Their tees and henleys are also generally available in 3X.

Join the Club

If you don’t want to hit the store to find clothing you’d actually want to wear, the Five Four Club may be right up your alley. The club is a service that sends you close in the sizes and styles that you specify. Sign up at the site, tell them about yourself and your style, and rejoice when the first package arrives at your door. You pay $60/month, but you get $120 in product – including product that isn’t available in the store yet. Considering how reasonable Five Four’s prices are, this could work out to be a decent amount of clothing in your closet after a few months. Plus, if you decide to venture out among the living and happen upon the Five Four Clothing store in Culver City, you ‘ll get 25% off anything you buy.

Who Wears Five Four Clothing?

Over the years, Five Four Clothing has built an impressive list of celebrities fans. Mark Wahlberg, Don Cheadle, Aziz Ansari, Michael Strahan, and Denzel Washington are among the famous gents wearing Five Four. It’s worth a look whether you’re going to their store at the Westfield in Culver City, or just browsing their website for deals.
