With more than 15 years of experience in the apparel industry, 12-Grand Founder Peter Lundgren had long been aware of the need for more extended size clothing options. “I’ve had this idea of making a standalone brand for the plus size audience. Not only because many seem to want it, but also because I’m 2XL and am [very] close to the end of the clothing industry’s so called “size norm” range, which caters to 99% of the clothing stores out there today. I wanted to make something that felt exclusive to this audience and with an attitude that most other plus size brands are lacking, ” says Lundgren.

What Kind of Shirts Will I Get?

12-Grand is launching with both short and long sleeve shirts in a variety of colors and designs. The brand is going for a streetwear vibe, so future designs will likely fall into that aesthetic. 12-Grand’s first model, Swedish rapper Biggie Juke is wearing one of the brand’s first shirts in the photo you see below.

“I also think that one of the areas that have been underrepresented for a long time on the plus size scene, is strong brand driven clothes with a street connection,” says Lundgren. “While building the brand, we’ve taken strong inspiration from both the street community and the luxury clothing scene. Take the classic simplicity of Carhartt, the luxury attention to detail and esthetics of COMME des GARCONS together with the attitude of Supreme, you’ll get something close to 12-Grand.”

As far as specifically what types of shirts you can expect, Lundgren says they’re working on an assortment. “It’s going to be everything from t-shirts to long sleeved shirts, ethically cut and sewn in our factory in Portugal using the highest quality cotton. Everything will be over[seen] by us to make sure that each detail is just as we want it. From the quality fit and feel, to the high end details worthy of any luxury brand out there. This is the cornerstone for us to be able to build the kind of brand we want so our subscribers can feel proud to be a part of [what we’re doing].

We’ve consulted people in almost all of our XL-12XL sizes to try to get the perfect middle ground for each size that will hopefully fit most body shapes out there.

12-Grand is Focused on Big & Tall Fit

Streetwear style is great, but what about fit? “This has been the hardest part since shirts over XL doesn’t really follow the same size measurement jumps as S-XL does. So to try to get this as right as possible from the start, we’ve consulted people in almost all of our XL-12XL sizes to try to get the perfect middle ground for each size that will hopefully fit most body shapes out there. This will of course be a constant work in progress, and we’ll be asking feedback from all new subscribers on what can be improved and perfected [with] our fit,” says Lundgren.
