Clothing subscription boxes are all the rage right now, and why not, right? Having a personal stylist send you clothes you actually want to wear means less time you have to spend shopping. Though most of the well-known box services don’t cater to bigger gents, brands like The Winston Box offer sizes to 6XL. It was only a matter of time before large retailers got into the fray, and it looks like JCPenney is testing the waters via a collaboration with personal stylist service Bombfell.
Getting Started with JCPenney + Bombfell
JCPenney + Bombfell offers big and tall customers a hand-picked selection of clothing straight from a personal stylist to their door. You start the process by filling out the online questionnaire, which asks you about your style preferences and sizing, then encourages you to create an account. Once you create your account, you’ll give JCPenney + Bombfell your address, payment method, and the date you want to preview your first box. Note that the service offers sizes from MT to 5XL for tops and 42 to 60 waist.
(Virtually) Meet Your New Personal Stylist
Once you complete your account, you’ll be connected with an actual human who will begin putting together looks for you. Stylist recommendations will be based on fit and style, so the hope is that you’ll get things you’d actually want to wear in sizes that fit. Before anything is sent, you’ll have the opportunity to preview and approve your box. If you approve, the box will be mailed to you and you’ll have 7 days to try things on. Keep the things you like and send back the pieces you don’t. You’ll only be charged for what you keep.
When I went through the signup process, I was able to choose between athleisure, casual wear and business professional attire. The clothes you receive will come from major national brands and JCPenney’s most popular big & tall labels. You can bet you’ll find some of their great Foundry Supply Co line included in some boxes.
How Much Does JCPenney + Bombfell Cost?
Since you only pay for what you keep, the price will vary. According to their FAQ, the average price point is $39 per item – about what you’d expect from JCPenney. The service charges a $20 fee for the dedicated personal stylist, free shipping / returns, and the 7 day try-on. If you decide to keep anything from the box, that fee will be applied to the cost.
By default, you’ll be receiving boxes from JCPenney + Bombfell on a monthly basis, but you can change the frequency to every 2-3 months or on demand. You can also change your shipping date if you need even more time between boxes but don’t want to cancel.
