Answerland: How to Find Glasses that Fit Your Head

Welcome to Answerland, the Chubstr Q+A series. This week, we take on a question from Darvin, who is looking for glasses that will fit his head.

Are there places that sell a wide variety of glasses and sunglasses for big heads?

There are a number of places you can go to find wide glasses frames in a variety of styles. I’ve got a big head, so I know how difficult it can be to find the perfect pair. Here are a few things you need to consider when looking for glasses that fit.

Know Your Glasses Size

Much like clothing, knowing your measurements makes getting the perfect pair of frames much easier. Here are some good tips for measuring your face for a new pair of glasses. Large frames seem to start at between 52mm and 55mm. I personally wear a 55mm in most of my glasses.

Consider the width of your glasses, but also think about how long the arms (known as temples) are. You want temple tips to adequately wrap behind your ears so that they don’t slide off. Most run between 120 and 150mm.

Where to Buy Glasses for Big Heads

Now that you have a better idea of how to find the right fit, here are a few places you should take a look at when searching for larger glasses frames.

Nike Eyeglasses at Eyeconic

Eyeconic offers a TON of glasses for big heads in a variety of styles, shapes and materials from lots of different brands. If you want options, this is the place to go. They’ve got it all, AND they’ve got a Virtual Try-On system that will show you want their frames look like on your face. Just upload a few photos of yourself and go shopping! Coastal.com offers frames starting at $19. Back in the day, they offered your first order free (as long as you pay shipping), but that’s not something they do regularly anymore. Either way, they’ve got some solid options for wide glasses. I have a pair of Derek Cardigan glasses from Coastal that I love. That specific pair isn’t available now, but they have a few others that are equally awesome.

BMEC (Big Men’s Eyewear Club) makes glasses specifically for those with big heads in a variety of colors and sizes.
