Mary askedHelp! My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and I think a backpack is the best gift for him. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the question, Mary! There are a ton of different types of backpacks and bags, depending on what your guy is into. Here are a few suggestions that run the spectrum from perfect for the outdoorsman, to something to store your laptop in. If you want to tell us more about his style and what he likes, send us another message and we can help you find something more to his liking.

If your gent is the type who likes to do some actual backpacking or bike riding, consider the Camelbak H.A.W.G. NV 100. This backpack is for the hard core outdoorsman: Camelbak H.A.W.G. NV 100 Bike Pack hauls enough hydration and gear for over three hours in the saddle. With dual side compression, the load stays stable, no matter what the terrain. This hydration carrier features a Air Director back panel, Mesh Harness enhances ventilation, Independent Suspension and waist harness stabilizes load as you move, secure cargo pocket includes internal organizer, secure bungee Cinch System holds Extra clothing, and includes Slider sternum strap and stowable waistbelt. Get the Camelbak H.A.W.G. NV 100 bike pack at Altrec Outdoors for $135.

If you’re looking for something that’s less focused on function, and more focused on style, take a look at Nordstrom’s extensive men’s backpack section, and the Bed Stu Backpack in particular. It’s got a vintage look, buckle straps, and enough pockets for just about anything your guy would need to carry. The best part is that this particular bag runs only $69.00. I found about 10 backpacks in Nordstrom’s collection that I want for myself, so if that’s not the exact style you’re looking for, be sure to browse the rest of their inventory – you’re sure to find something he’ll like. Prices range from $65 on the low end, to about $700 on the high end.

Consider the Timbuk2 Command Messenger 2012 if your gent is the type who takes his laptop with him everywhere he goes. It features separate laptop and iPad pockets, a removable shoulder strap, and it’s TSA compliant – perfect for frequent travelers.

If you want a more traditional sort of backpack, Timbuk2 carries those as well. Consider the Custom Swig backpack, the Especial Viaje Pannier, or the TRACK II Backpack for something like that. Prices range from $44 – $229 at Timbuk2.com.

This should give you a few options to choose from. Let us know if your guy has more specific needs and we’ll help you find what you’re looking for.
