Zach Miko Signs to IMG Models

Remember last year when we found a photo of model/actor Zach Miko on the Target website? It’s been a wild ride since then, culminating in yesterday’s news that international modeling agency, IMG Models has signed him as the first model in their new body positive men’s plus size division, called Brawn.

Ivan Bart, president at IMG Models told WWD, that “body positive messaging and size diversity is something that’s relevant and something that continues to be on everybody’s mind.” Their goal is to extend this conversation to men.

Zach’s signing represents a step forward for body positivity in an industry that has traditionally overlooked people of size. With the success of plus size models like Ashley Graham and Tess Holliday, it makes sense that a male model would crop up sooner than later, and with IMG leading the way, don’t be surprised to see other agencies try to replicate that and bring on their own models.

Some will argue that at 6’6 and a 40 inch waist, Zach is at the smaller end of the plus size spectrum. Those people are missing the bigger picture. The fact that someone with a body outside of the mainstream is being represented as a plus size male model is a huge step in the right direction, and opens doors that were closed before. Will we see more plus size male models of a variety of body types? Only time will tell.

What do you think about Zach’s signing to IMG Models? Is it a body positive step in the right direction? What kind of plus size male model would you like to see in magazines, catalogs, and commercials? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
