Chubstr shows up in an article in the L.A. Times

Thing of the Week: Chubstr in the Los Angeles Times

Chubstr in the Los Angeles Times

Last night, as I’m sitting in my fancy hotel room, traveling on some “Official Chubstr Business,” I received a message that said was receiving traffic from the Los Angeles Times. I did a bit of research, and it turns out that they included us in an article! It’s a great piece written by Rene Lynch about beauty, body image, self-acceptance, and the effect the internet has on how people (especially younger people) see themselves.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably aware of the darker side of all of that – how anonymity allows people to do or say things online that they’d never say in real life. Rene covers a lot of that in this article. She also covers the brighter side of things – body positive blogs, like Fat Girl’s Guide, Curve Appeal, and Chubstr. It’s surprising and gratifying beyond belief to be noticed by someone from an organization like the Los Angeles Times, let alone included in an article as something positive for people to take a look at. It feels like we’re making a difference, however small it is.

If you have some extra time, take a look at the article. It’s a great read. And don’t worry, we’ll be back to our normal shenanigans next week – you know – bringing you reviews of the company that lets you put your twitter feed on rolls of toilet paper. Something upstanding like that.
