2013 NAAFA Convention and Expo, taking place at the Westin Las Vegas Hotel, Casino, & Spa.
NAAFA, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending size discrimination in all its forms. Founded in 1969, their goal is to help build a society in which people of every size are accepted with dignity and equality in all aspects of life. A few ways they do this is through education, advocacy, and this convention.
What’s the NAAFA Convention All About?
The theme of this year’s event is “Promoting Equality: All Sizes Welcome!” The convention will feature workshops with a focus on the following:
Diversity, Size Acceptance and Corporate Culture
Bullying in the Classroom and Beyond
Accessibility: Tools for Everyday Living
Being Healthy at Any Size
You can see the schedule of events right here (via PDF). Within these specific areas, you’ll find variety of interesting topics that run the spectrum – including some that focus on style. Speaking of which, I’ll be delivering the saturday afternoon keynote about finding your own style. In addition, there will be workshops focused on plus size fashion blogging and teaching fat fashion.

If you need even more style, you’re in luck as Saturday night brings us the Fashion Show:
This year Las Vegas will take its place as the leading plus-size fashion capital of the world as we bring you the NAAFA 2013 Fashion Show & Auction Dinner. A major fund raising event for our organization will feature food, fashion, music, art, and our well known Not-So-Silent Auction. Plus size fashion designers from around the country as well as up coming new student designers will present their latest collections of inspired designs.
Aside from learning and connecting, there’s a lot of fun to be had at the 2013 NAAFA Convention. From the gaming and costume parties, to the hospitality suite, finding ways to kick back and enjoy yourself should be pretty easy.
