Many of you reading this probably grew up with R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books. It wouldn’t be surprising if the series was your introduction to the horror genre, considering that for a while, they were selling at a rate of millions of books per month. Our latest Man of the Week is none other than Jack Black, who plays Stine in the film version of Goosebumps, which hit theaters last week.

For the curious, Goosebumps tells the story of a boy who moves from the big city to a small town, where he meets the beautiful girl next door. Turns out, the girl’s Father is none other than Stine, the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – themonsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books.

Aside from films, you can catch Black on the HBO comedy The Brink, in which he plays Alex Talbot, a low level Foreign Service Officer, along with Tim Robbins, who plays the Secretary of State. If you missed it when it came out earlier this year, catch it on demand before season 2 comes out next year.

Of course, there’s also Black’s group with Kyle Gass, Tenacious D, but unless you attended the latest installment of their Festival Supreme on October 10th, you’re probably not going to see them live anytime soon. They seem to be taking a break.
