Director Kevin Smith gets this week’s MOTW nod for changing his mind about retiring. You might remember reading one of the many articles about his impending retirement a few years back. “I don’t have any stories left to tell,” he told Entertainment Weekly at one point.
Turns out (thankfully), that’s not true.
Smith’s horror feature, Tusk, is slated for release this fall, and that movie’s spinoff, Yoga-Hosers, begins shooting later this year. Here’s what you can expect from Tusk, starring Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osment, and Justin Long, with Johnny Depp playing a “small but crucial role.”
When podcaster and journalist Wallace Bryton goes missing in the backwoods of Manitoba while interviewing a mysterious seafarer named Mr. Howe, his best friend and girlfriend team with an ex-cop to look for him.
After he finishes those films, Smith will move to the festive horror anthology, Anti-Claus. Once he’s finished scaring the pants of Christmas, it looks like he plans to shoot Clerks III. Screen Daily asked him if he still plans on retiring. “I am definitely not going to retire,” Smith added. “I am only going to make films that only I could ever make or would ever make.”
