Dan Fogler Was Almost Pennywise in the New IT Remake

Do you listen to Dan Fogler’s 4D Xperience? It’s actor Dan Fogler’s podcast about weed, movies, life, and just about anything else that happens to come up in the course of conversation. Season 3 just kicked off, and one of the things that makes this podcast a favorite of mine is how open and honest Fogler is about…well, everything. He shares real stories about his experiences as an actor in NYC and Hollywood, and in most cases, gets his guests to do the same.

In the season 3 premiere, Jeff Garlin joins Fogler at the Chateau Marmont to eat Spaghetti Bolognese, smoke some extremely powerful sativa, and share stories about people they worked with and the movies they love.

Early in the conversation, Garlin mentions how much he liked the remake of Stephen King’s It, and Fogler reveals that he was actually up for the role of Pennywise the Dancing Clown:

Fogler: I was up for the part of the fucking clown. They asked me to make a tape, so I sent it in. They wanted me to do it, I couldn’t do it because it had to be in what they call ‘first position’ because of fantastic beasts, but i had to turn it down. Could you imagine if I was the fucking clown in that?
Garlin: Yes I can. It’s a different performance, but you’re perfect. there has to be a certain energy that you have, and that this dude [Bill Skarsgard, who plays the role in the new film] has.

Can you imagine what the film would have been like with Dan Fogler as Pennywise? I think an already great film would have been made even more interesting. Regardless, we’ll catch Dan Fogler in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 next year, and a bunch of other things in the meantime.
