When I was a teen, there was no social media, no body positive websites, and certainly not any books featuring fat people sharing their experiences. Having any of those resources available could have been life changing for many people. Editor Angie Manfredi wants to help fill this still existing gap withThe (Other) F Word: A Celebration of the Fat and Fierce, a collection of personal essays, prose, poetry, and art focused on body image and fat acceptance, available September 24th.

The (Other) F Word Contributors

The diverse and ranging list of contributors (there are 30!) include Samantha Irby, Jes Baker, Rachel Abellar, Corissa Enneking, Ady Del Valle, Virgie Tovar, even me, Bruce Sturgell. The stories contained in the book are funny, practical, vulnerable, eye-opening and perfect for readers of all ages.

This can be their roadmap and I am so ready to help them start the journey.

I asked Angie why she wanted to create a book like this, and here’s what she told me:

“As a librarian, I’ve spent years wishing a book like this would exist for teens. I wanted something that could share with readers that there’s a whole bunch of fat people doing amazing things and loving their lives and no matter what else they heard, it was OK to love themselves exactly the way they are. I firmly believe when we begin to stop hating our bodies we start a revolution that can change the world and I am so thrilled this book will exist to get teens (and maybe readers of all ages new to the movement) to see just how much greatness, possibility, confidence, and love there is out there for them. This can be their roadmap and I am so ready to help them start the journey.”
