Chubstr is a style destination for big and tall or plus size men. Since 2010, we have helped readers find, create, and share their style with the world through informative guides, interviews, photo shoots, and our curated shopping section. We’re pushing back against the myth that bigger guys don’t care about style by creating compelling content that runs the spectrum of fashion, lifestyle, politics, travel, food, and relationships.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Founder Bruce Sturgell started Chubstr out of the frustration of not being able to find stylish clothing in his size. “I would go to the mall to buy something, and see clothes I loved, but I’d leave empty handed because nothing would fit.” Experiencing this repeatedly, Sturgell set out to create a blog to call out retailers and brands that were hiding or not offering extended sizes at all.
I would go to the mall to buy something, and see clothes I loved, but I’d leave empty handed because nothing would fit.
“I started talking about brands that hid their big and tall sections on their website, or that didn’t carry extended sizes at all. I would share photos of my looks, and tips on where to find things. I was surprised to see that this resonated with people. They were sharing their own tips and photos with us, and I realized that this could be a real community, and a resource to help others.”
Chubstr began to gain traction and find interest in the press, with outlets like the New York Times, Refinery29, BBC, The Guardian, and more taking notice.
