Hands On with Birchbox Man

Birchbox Man

For the last two years, Birchbox has been helping women discover the best beauty products on the market by sending a box full of samples to their door each month. The men’s side of the company, Birchbox Man, is newer, but offers grooming and lifestyle products that many guys will find intriguing. For $20 a month, customers get a box full of products sent to them to test out. Products range from cologne and haircare products, to gadgets such as a RumbaTime watch. You won’t know ahead of time what you’re going to receive in your Birchbox, and that makes things more interesting. You will, however, receive tips and info on getting the most out of your samples when they arrive.

Is it worth the cost? Birchbox sent us a box of our own and we’re cracking it open to help you make that decision. Take a look at the photos below.

Inside a Birchbox

Presentation:

The box looks small from the outside, but it’s packed with products and information. It’s obvious that the company put quite a bit of thought into presentation when putting this together. The products included offer a bit of variety and make for a nice surprise when they arrive.

Products:

I’ll admit, I was surprised to find a watch in the box, but that’s part of the fun of receiving a Birchbox. Also included was a 4.7 oz bottle of Eshu Shave Gel, Star U.S.A. cologne by John Varvatos, and a 1 oz tube of Shave Cream from Anthony Logistics for Men. The watch alone retails for $16, meaning that you’re getting a better deal for all these products than you could if you purchased them individually. The only problem I ran into was that the watch was too small for my meaty wrist. Keep in mind that as a subscriber, you’ll enter information that customizes what you receive, so chances are you’ll never run into an issue like this.

The Verdict:

If you’re interested in trying out new products without laying down the cash to buy a full size bottle of something you might not like, Birchbox Man is the way to go. The samples change each month, and you get more than just skin creams and colognes (though you can probably never have too many of those). As they have relationships with brands such as Kérastase, Kiehl’s, and BVLGARI, you’ll get to experience some products you might not be aware of otherwise. It’s not a bad deal for $20 a month.

Birchbox also allows you to purchase 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions, making it a great gift for friends or family. You can select a subscription and join the waiting list to get in. I signed up and was granted entry in about 5 days. Birchbox says it usually takes a week. Are you a Birchbox Man Subscriber?
