Sized Up: San Francisco, California

After a bit of a break, it’s back! Sized Up is our weekly feature that’ll help you find clothing in your size in cities around the world. You won’t see the same old mall stores here – we focus on smaller, custom shops and boutiques that are off the beaten path. This week we go to the city by the bay, San Francisco, California.

San Francisco is a pretty stylish place. If you look hard enough, you can find everything from thrift store gems to high end boutiques featuring items priced in the thousands. This sort of variety makes it a great place to look for clothing in extended sizes. Here are a few places we’d recommend you take a look at when you’re in the city.

Jeremy’s
2 S Park Street
San Francisco, Ca 94107
415-882-4929
www.jeremys.com

M-W, F-Sa: 11-6pm
Th: 11-8pm
Sun: 12-6pm

Sizes: To 3XL and 44 waist depending on inventory
Price: $ – $$$

For over 25 years, Jeremy’s department store has offered a wide variety of designer clothing and accessories from a variety of sources. If you’re looking for higher end fashions for lower prices, there’s a good chance you’ll find them here. Clothing at Jeremy’s might have begun life as display pieces at other department stores, sale samples, or past season stock direct from a designer. Because of this, you’ll find quite a selection. Inventory changes regularly, and prices run the spectrum (one gent found a new polo for $2), so you’ll want to check there regularly if you’re in the area.

Cafe Coton
210 Grant Avenue
San Francisco, Ca 94108
415-837-0937
www.cafecoton.com/index.php?l=en

Call for hours

Sizes: To 3XL and 46 waist
Price: $$$

Cafe Coton is a quality men’s clothing boutique with locations around the world. Offering shirts, ties, pants, and accessories made to exacting standards, their clothing is high end with prices to match. Cafe Coton oversees the entire production process, which ensures that whatever you buy from them will look good and last for a while. If you’re willing to put down the money for some (generally) dressier clothing, this is the place to go.

Haight Street Work Clothes
631 Haight Street
San Francisco, CA 94117
415-621-2181

M-Sa: 11:30-7pm
Su: 11:30-6pm

Sizes: At least 4XL and 46 waist depending on inventory
Price: $$

Haight Street Work Clothes is a relatively new store with a focus on…you guessed it…work clothes. You’ll find all the things you’d expect from Dickies, Carhartt, Doc Marten, Alpha and the like. If you’re like me and the occasional Dickies work shirt is part of your style, you’ll dig this place.

The Hard Wear Store
2401 Irving Street
San Francisco, CA 94122
866-934-9327
shop.hardwearsf.com

M-Sa: 10-7pm
Su: 11-6pm

Sizes: To 3XL/5XL (store/site) and waist to 50

The Hard Wear Store offers more than the workwear staples you’d expect. A look at their store will show you t-shirts, jeans, caps and accessories that work as well to complete a look as they would on the job. They specialize in tall and short inseams (28 to 36), which can be hard to find in most stores. They also take special orders if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for in their store or on their website.
