Hush Puppies HP1958 Collection Mixes Classic & Modern Looks

While Hush Puppies might not be a brand you immediately think of when shopping for a new pair of shoes, their HP1958 Collection offers a surprising amount of retro style. Reintroduced in 2010, the collection features shoes made of suede with designs that offer a classic look. In their heyday, Hush Puppies were worn by celebrities and musicians alike. In fact, there’s a story that says The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards was saved from death by electrocution because of a pair of  Hush Puppies:

It was Hush Puppies rubber soles that saved the life of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards when he accidentally touched his guitar against an ungrounded microphone at a 1965 concert in Sacramento, California. Knocked unconscious, medics believed that the crepe soled Hush Puppies shoes that Richards was wearing insulated him – and saved the future of rock `n roll.

On the men’s side of the HP1958 collection, you’ll find a classic oxford, sneakers, and a great looking suede boot with an extra cushioned sole. Sizes run to 13 in most of the shoes and prices range from $56 – $180, depending on the shoe. The Norco is a great choice if you’re looking for a simple boot, and the Lassen is a solid choice if you’re looking for a dress shoe.
