Our latest Man of the Week, Dean DeBlois, had a pretty good weekend. The writer and director of How to Train Your Dragon 2 took home a Golden Globe for Best Animated Film. Hailing from Quebec, DeBlois began his career as an animator in Ottawa, working on various animated TV productions. In the 90’s, DeBlois moved to Los Angeles to work for Walt Disney Feature Animation, where he worked on Mulan, and co-wrote and directed Lilo and Stitch.

DeBlois also directed the Sigur Ros concert film, Heima, as well as Jónsi’s Go Quiet and Jónsi: Live at The Wiltern. In 2008, Dean DeBlois worked with frequent collaborator Chris Sanders to rework and co-direct How to Train Your Dragon for Dreamworks, which went on to be the studio’s highest grossing film in North America, aside from their Shrek franchise.

In the video below, DeBlois talks about what drew him to the How to Train Your Dragon Franchise:

DeBlois is hard at work on the 3rd and final installment of How to Train Your Dragon, due out in 2017. You can follow Dean DeBlois on Twitter at @DeanDeBlois.
