Should I Shave? Tips for Summer Beard Grooming

Is it time to shave your beard?

Here at Chubstr, we’re staunch supporters of sporting facial hair all year round. But with Spring upon us, is it time to shave the sweet beard you’ve been growing all winter? Granted, it might not feel so good when you’re walking down the street in 90 degree heat, but it looks killer… So what’s a guy to do? Here are some summer beard grooming tips to help keep your face furry no matter what the season.

The Trimmed Beard

Perhaps the best way to keep the appearance of a beard, but with less bulk and weight. It gives you full coverage without the “under coat” of your winter beard and you’ll actually be able to feel the breeze on your face again. With proper trimming and grooming, you’ll look just as pulled together rocking it at an interview as you will drinking beers with buddies.
Tip: Define a clean line where your beard stops and your neck starts. This will keep it looking neat and tidy.

Scruff

AKA, the lazy man’s beard. Essentially this look says “I care about how I look, but not enough shave daily.” Really, it’s an illusion. To achieve scruff, you’ll need to groom and trim just as much as any other style. Rather than shaving your winter beard clean off and starting over, use clippers with a number 1 or 2 guard. It can easily grow into the “trimmed beard” if you’re feeling a bit naked.
Tip: If you’re hesitating to go this short, start with a number 4 or 3 guard and work down. Better to be safe than sorry.

Screw it Beard

Do nothing! Don’t shave! This is definitely an option. If your beard is a statement, keep it, groom it, and let it grow. Just because the weather has turned warm doesn’t mean you have to give in to it. Besides, it looks pretty bad ass to rock a beard on the beach in your bathing suit. It’s the ultimate way to say “my beard is here to stay”.
Tip: Don’t want to go full crazy? Keep your neck and cheeks trimmed for a more “kempt” look.
