Answerland: Vintage Big & Tall, Chino Shorts & Low-Cost Clothing

A vintage look from Old SparkyBrendo asks: Hey guys. I’m a big guy 23yo 5ft 9/10″ and about 300lbs. I’m looking for a vintage kind of look like the guy you featured on Jul 11 in Vintage Bukowski. Where would I find clothing like this? Online stores would be awesome, or if you have contacts in Australia that would be even more awesome as there’s sweet fa around for us bigger guys who want to get some style that I can find. Help a brother out.
Thanks for the question, Brendo. I’m not in Australia, so I don’t have a ton of options for you, but check Kingsize.com.au, Bigguy.com.au, and Ron Bennett Big Men’s Clothing.

In the states, if you’re looking for a one stop shop, check out Nordstrom. You’ll be able to piece together a look that’s very similar to this one with few problems. For anything you can’t find there, try Men’s Wearhouse or DXL

Finally, for specific accessories, or vintage big & tall clothing, try your hand at Etsy for vintage goodies, and look at the hats over at Goorin Bros – they’re a Chubstr favorite.

Australian Chubstrs – help us out here. Where should Brendo be shopping?

Mary says: My husband is a big guy who used to dress very well. He has relied a lot on comic book character t-shirts and ugly jeans since gaining weight. Thanks for making this blog and proving that large men can still be stylish 🙂
We’re glad Chubstr is helping your hubby find style no matter what his size. If there’s anything else we can do to help out, don’t hesitate to send us a message.

By the way, if he’s up for it, we’d love to see a photo!

Tito asks: Do you guys know a nice place to get chino shorts from with pattern on them waist size 44-46 ?
Take a look at Macy’s big and tall chino shorts – they’re available to size 60 in brands ranging from Ralph Lauren to Dockers, to Levi’s. There’s a ton of chino-esque options there to choose from. Land’s End has a chino short to 46, and if you’re lucky, UNIQLO might just cater to folks who need shorts up to 4X, though they look to be sold out right now.

ThrownOlive asks: I’m wondering if you have any recommendations for lower cost clothes for some of us Chubstrs?
It’s difficult sometimes – the low cost stuff isn’t always available in extended sizes. They make you hunt for it. My go-to shops for lower cost clothing are as follows: Old Navy, UNIQLO (mostly online), J.C. Penney, Nordstrom Rack and Dillard’s. It’s all about patience, timing, and being willing to spend the time to find what you’re looking for. We’re working on an article that goes more in-depth into lower-cost options for big guys, so keep an eye out for that in the near future.
