For big guys, creating a look in the style you want and the size you need can be a difficult, time-consuming experience. You know how hard it is to put together a casual look that works, but what if you’re looking for big and tall wedding attire? That’s even more difficult, especially if that look is the one you’ll be wearing on your wedding day. Our wedding was going to be a bit less traditional, as we planned to get married in Las Vegas. Because we were going to be doing the ceremony at the Venetian, and we were skipping the Elvis impersonator, I wanted my look to be laid back, yet well-put together and formal enough to stand out.

With temperatures forcast to be in the low 100’s in Las Vegas that day, wearing a tuxedo was out. Besides, most of the tuxes I’ve worn aren’t very flattering; they’re boxy and do strange things with my body shape. We decided to go for more of a classic look, with a few unique touches. The shirt is an IZOD big and tall button down from J.C. Penney (Big & Tall XL), and the vest is an Egara Slim Fit Vest from Men’s Wearhouse (5X). The jeans are 559’s from Levis (44×29), and the amazing shoes are McTavish black wax-infused leather wingtip oxfords from Allen Edmonds (10 EEE).

The additional accents used to finish off the look included the Calypso necktie from Sovereign Beck’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection, Fighter Black socks from Richer Poorer and a unique looking paper boutonniere from FlowerThyme, a store we found on Etsy. Our concern was that organic flowers wouldn’t hold up well in the summer heat, so the handcrafted quality of the paper flowers appealed to us. I also brought along a cap from Stetson, but ultimately chose not to wear it.
In all, my big and tall wedding attire cost me about $530, though half of that was the price of those sweet, sweet, shoes. For me, the price was well worth it; I was able to wear a look I put together from scratch that suited the feel of our wedding, and I felt great when I had it on.
