If you’re in the NYC area this weekend and you’re looking for clothing, consider attending Big Fat Flea 2012 – an “all-genders fatshion rummage sale for fat folks who like a bargain.” Previously known as Fat Girl Flea, the name has been changed this year to promote (and get) more masculine-spectrum clothing. At the Flea, you’ll find new and vintage clothing in sizes 14 and up for all genders.
This year’s event is being held in a bigger space, and they’ll be bringing in more items, and personal shoppers, which can come in handy for those of you who want style advice or assistance. Tickets are $10 at that door, and that gets you access to a wide variety of clothing, with nothing over $10. If you’re thrifty and you like to create your own unique style, Big Fat Flea is an event you’ll want to attend. All proceeds from the event benefit NOLOSE, a volunteer-run organization dedicated body empowerment.
If you’re in the area and you want to donate clothing, you can do so by dropping it off at the LGBT Center in Manhattan – 208 West 13th Street, NYC on the 3rd floor – Saturday 5/12 between 6-10pm, or Sunday 5/13, between 11-3pm.
