For some, the Friday after Thanksgiving isn’t all about shopping until you drop (or get trampled by mobs of frenzied lunatics in search of the elusive Furby), rather, Black Friday for these people is the official beginning of ‘Oscar Season.’
That is, the point in the year when we leave behind the summer’s plethora of superhero and action-packed blockbusters in favor of the serious epics. The think pieces, the important stories of substance, and the Oscar-worthy performances of Hollywood legends and icons.
And what better day to unleash the latest biopic on movie audiences. Forget Team Edward, Team Jacob, and dead presidents; this weekend saw the much-anticipated (limited) release of Hitchcock. Starring our Man of the Week, Sir Anthony Hopkins.
And who better to portray legendary master of suspense and yes, even horror, than Hannibal Lecter himself?
We’ve been anticipating Hopkins as Hitchcock since the summer, when the first images of the good Sir as the iconic director leaked.
Hitchcock focuses on the legendary director’s relationship with his wife Alma Reville, played by Helen Mirren, as well as the making of Psycho. With Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh and a supporting cast that includes Toni Colette and Jessica Biel, Hitchcock could see Academy nods for feature, actor, actress, and supporting actress come February.
Though the film is still only in limited release, it’s getting excellent reviews and with all of that Oscar buzz, we’re left to ponder the irony should Sir Anthony win an Oscar for his portrayal of the famously-snubbed director.
And with that we wrap up another edition of Man of the Week. As always, if you have suggestions for men you’d like to see featured here, leave them in the comments or on our Facebook page.
